Staying with Dalby Square, a couple of old Ramsgate postcards with the writing on the back and some thoughts on identity theft and malicious phone calls.

I think Sultan House is Dalby Square, but could do with confirmation, at least is says 1872

I have to say that it’s happened again, a little while ago someone phoned up claiming to be one of our energy suppliers and then asked and identity question. “Can you give us your account number, to confirm your identity?” They then tried to take over our account and change our supplier. Well after that the penny dropped. You phone your bank, energy supplier, insurance company, etc and they ask you to confirm your identity, and yes that’s fine.

They phone you up and then ask you to confirm your identity and it is probably a malicious call. But what do you do when the genuine company phone you up and ask you an identity question? Out default position at the moment is to assume unsolicited phone calls, phone calls from companies who can’t confirm their identity, which at the moment is most of the big ones, are malicious and treat them that way.

Anyway I have just had another it was really us email.

Of course most of our phone calls are from people ordering books, asking about books and so on, so the book confirms their identity and we don’t need to confirm ours as they – having phoned us up, know that we are us.

Comments, since I started writing this blog in 2007 the way the internet works has changed a lot, comments and dialogue here were once viable in an open and anonymous sense. Now if you comment here I will only allow the comment if it seems to make sense and be related to what the post is about. I link the majority of my posts to the main local Facebook groups and to my Facebook account, “Michael Child” I guess the main Ramsgate Facebook group is We Love Ramsgate. For the most part the comments and dialogue related to the posts here goes on there. As for the rest of it, well this blog handles images better than Facebook, which is why I don’t post directly to my Facebook account, although if I take a lot of photos I am so lazy that I paste them directly from my camera card to my bookshop website and put a link on this blog.
